Working Relationships

Over the weekend, we had a guest in our home. His name is Cooper and he is my sister-in-law’s miniature Dachshund. You might remember from other posts here that I have a dog, Charlie. And you might also remember that Charlie is a mix of Boxer and Greyhound. The thought of having two such similar and yet polar opposite dogs in my home made me smile. What can I say, I like Mutt and Jeff scenarios. I really was hoping that they would be a match made in heaven, albeit a doggy-tail-wagging one. Alas, as all veterans of the playground dynamics know, mere proximity alone is not all that is needed to create a meaningful and lasting relationship. Relationships take work.

Still Running

Technically, “Still Running” is the team name I’ll be running with for Hood to Coast 2011.  But it’s apropos today because I’m still running, even though it doesn’t always feel like something I want to do.  Every time I lace up my shoes in spite of not feeling like it, I am reminded of why I run…because it frees me from the frustrations of my day.  Running allows me to escape my demons for a few miles.  But sometimes, running is also a reminder of those demons.

Not A Tail-Wagging Kind of Day

If I was a smart blogger, I’d have a few emergency blog posts all spit-shined and ready to go in the unlikely event of a water landing, so to speak.  But I’m not much of a smart blogger apparently because this morning when I looked in desperation at my draft blogs, they all suck in various amounts.  So here I am, typing away with a tear-streaked face and a sad panda little self.

My Mondays and Fridays start a bit crazy as I get the kids all set for school in a mad-dash kind of way, then they get nice and mellow as I sit in my comfy office chair with a cup of coffee and type up whatever comes to mind.  And it really looked like that would be today’s happy matter as well.  Until I caught my dog’s tail in the storm door on our way back from the bus stop.
