In June of 2010 the inter webs were abuzz with Oprah’s “Search for the Next TV Star”. Folks from all over the place uploaded their videos and collectively held their breath after asking all their friends and family to vote for them. In fact, one of my friends, Joanie Quinn, sent in her video. So people voted like mad, controversy raged, and a winner was chosen. In case you forgot all about that clamor and angst, the winner’s show will debut tonight and I’m almost tempted to break my “tv-free” ban and watch it even though it isn’t my friend who Oprah made the next TV star. Nope, that title goes to Zach Anner.
I first came across Zach via Reddit. I’m enough of a Redditor that I have the app on my iPhone and check in at least once a day, just to see what’s going on in the world. Part way through the voting period, an appeal showed up on Reddit, asking folks to vote for Zach Anner. And lots and lots of Redditors did. Oh, yeah, I’m sure having endorsements from big wigs like John Mayer had the loudest impact on Oprah. But I’d like to think that all those regular folks voting for Zach caught her attention as well. Because the little people need to feel like they can make a difference as well.
Whether you think Zach Anner is awesome or a dork, there is something pretty powerful in his show, “Rollin’ Around the World with Zach Anner.” And when you watch the trailer for the show, I think you’ll see what I mean.
Because you know that at the end of the day, each and every person impacted in the filming of this show goes home and feels a little better about things. In fact, it seems to be a show about a whole bunch of little people making a difference regardless of their size, skills, or situation. And in the end, that’s the best – just rolling along through this life, making a difference.
